My opinion:

One of the best ways TO PROMOTE S, is to have a working S display with a
section devoted to promotion of S magazines, suppliers/manufacturers with
explanitory handouts/contact info/where to buy info and a source(s) to answer
questions at any RR oriented event, and during hollidays at bank lobbies,
malls, etc.

To have a scale only orientation is just as counterproductive as having an AF
only attitude. S is an amalgum of all kinds of preferences and thus one of the
"attractions" to S is the abbility to have choices.

There are many "draws" to S, one is a large selection of RTR equipment (Locos,
track, cars etc), which most people are totaly unaware of. This has never been
about AF, it's about awareness of what is available. The coolest aspect of RTR
that is available, is that any and everybody can have what they want, in any
variation or shade of nuance. Thank God for AM, SHS, DPH and some others.

Some of the finest layouts I have seen are S, both scale and AF. I have also
been privledged to see some of the finest in G, O, HO and N. They all have
something to contribute. The Wonder of S is that it can ENCOMPASE all of the
"qualities" and "advantages" of other scales. The Wonder of S is that you can
utilize N, HO, O and even some G scale items into an S layout ( I and others
have done this). The Wonder of S is that you can have whatever you want and
enjoy it now, from track on the floor running around in circles to superbly
detailed realistic modeling. The Wonder of S is that it promotes idividuality,
plurality of ideas and expressions of creativity and that anyone, no matter
skill level or personal bent, can have fun playn' with trains.

I have always strived to promote S (regardless of whether AF purrist or a P=64
scale enthusiast and everything inbetween) when I go to train shows or at
holiday exibits, at my own expense, I have promoted ALL interests of S through
displays, sales and service and in some cases a working layout, with info,
handouts, copies of magazines, etc.

What are all of us doing to promote S in our areas? Here is what I am doing
right now:

I have undertaken an S promotion effort on the internet, as have others, to
offer help, info, how-to's, S layouts, references and items of interest and
links to S resources. It is time consuming, but rewarding, it is open to
anyone's contributions, and it does not discriminate against any S
interests/preferances. You want to support and grow S...this may be one of the
methods that will be helpfull.

Take a look and see if it is something you want to do for yourself, or help me
improve and expand site, or just enjoy looking....give me some feedback, or if
you have some nifty ways to fix, adapt, repair, modify or improve any S item. I
am open to your suggestions. CONTACT OFF LIST AT: [EMAIL PROTECTED] for S web
site.
Comming soon will be items for sale section ...have to work out method of
listing stuff (my items at first), then if that works, may list others S and RR
related items.

For S manufacturers, importers, suppliers, hobby shops, S info sites and S
layouts: I am requesting you to link to my site, I have already linked to some
of you, and will include a reciprocal link for those who link to my site.
Contact me for any info at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] , contact me off list, if you
wish to talk by phone, send me time to call and number and I will be glad to
call you (I am on Pacific Coast).

Thanks to all who have already responded and those that have cross linked
sites, and to those of you who wish to respond.
