Along in the late 50's and maybe 1960 the Frisco leased a whole series of wood
racks to the C of G. This was at a time the Frisco was courting the C of G,
through stock ownership,,,the end result was the C of G went to the Southern
and the wood racks came back to the Frisco...
And in the mid 60's when Ft Smith, Arkansas was the 40ft Boxcar Capitol of the
World, you would see boxcars like the Reading green and yellow boxcars, marked:
Return to Frisco Agent Ft Smith Arkansas on them.....all dedicated to
appliance loading at Whirlpool or Norge. So sure the boxcars could roam, but
these were in dedicated service far from home rails....another thing I remember
seeing in one of the NYC color books was a switcher spotting two loads of
company coal at a coaling tower in Indiana or Ohio somewhere, one a LNE hopper
the other a Frisco hopper..
I know I know John that still doesn't put Southern wood racks on the SP.......
