S Friends,

Well, my NMRA/San Jacinto MRRClubs/November tour open house is now over
and done. We had a reasonable amount of folks drop by either Friday
evening or Saturday afternoon. I think the total count was in the 40+
range. I was a little disappointed by the lack of little ones as we
only had three. One was a boy of maybe 12-14 who actually had his
layout open a week or two earlier. He was fascinated by the detail of S
scale and spent a fair amount of time searching my nooks and cranny's.

As far as equipment failures went we had one boxcar thats been on my
roster for 20+ years that didn't like my track that evening. On
Saturday my UP gas turbine went down with the control unit shutting down
the layout for a couple of minutes. Some SHS F-3's then look over for
the duration.

The turbine problem remains a mystery as I'm not sure whether it's a
decoder problem or a shorting problem in the trucks or??--it's in the
shop now.
I mentioned to someone that the turbine had cost $300 more than my 1971
Chevy Vega. Until Saturday the gas turbines were a better investment.

Steve King, Don Hand and Peter Vanvliet all helped in keeping the trains
running.
