Hi All, I am responding to Robyn about HO or (I don't know why) N Scale envy. I have been in S for about 21 years now. I have gotten HO envy whenever their Broadway Limited or whatever they call themselves lately comes out with a new plastic RTR PRR locomotive. By far the worst case of it was about 1 month ago when their I1 was released right down to the number I will be using on 1 of my I1. It is gorgeous with the LONG 210F75 tender. Bruce fired it up and played the Banshee like a beautiful 1 note railroad symphony. For an insane 4 seconds I thought about buying it but NO, reality prevailed. So for a few fleeting minutes every 1-2 years I have HO envy. I have never had N Scale envy. I have also NOT once for 1 second in the past 21 years thought about SWITCHING BACK to HO again. I have said if I were not in S, I would be in O Scale. That is still true. I have O Scale envy a lot more then HO envy, but the moments are always brief. I have painted and worked on a LOT of O Scale brass in the past 5 years. It is interesting that if I am on an O Scale run for 1-2 weeks when I come back to working on my S it seems small for about an hour!
I am not in S Scale because it IS easy! MY number 1 life motto is Dare To BE Different! If you know me well, you know I can frequently be found in Tie Die T shirts because not many people wear them! I really DON'T CARE if it is IN or not. The challenges of being in S Scale are what I create for myself in my modeling. After that it is all rewards. If I wanted it to be EASY I would be in HO where there are a small group of excellent modelers compared to the size of the HO market- the rest are just buyers. I say you have to suffer for your art. But for me it is not suffering in the literal sense of the word. It is me challenging myself to build better and unique models. My fellow S Scale SPF Buds will be able to look at my models from 5 feet away and know that is not how they came into this world. But in the end my model work is not really for anyone else - or for contest model entry, it is FOR ME! I just had to post something about my Mighty PRR. I have been working on a vintage late 1960 to early 70s Max Gray O Scale brass NYC H10b for the past few days. It is a real beauty, a very nice piece that is built like a tank - NOTHING fell off the model!) EGADS! - did he just type N Y C? Yes I did Bucko. I wear latex gloves when I work on NYC models so the evil does not singe my fingers! (:->) En Garde!
