I would like add a bit of caution when using home printers. Generally
it's best to use the papers from the printer manufacturer except for
some exotic fine art papers. So if your a HP fan use their papers
unless you want to fool with printer ICC profiles for every paper
combination you use. I personally use Epson printers with their
papers. I would think Epson Premium Matte would be an excellent
choice. This paper requires a special matte ink/pigment but is dead
flat. Most of the Epson products will outlast your models unless you
stain them. This is a problem when spraying scenery materials that are
close to your flats.

One of my dear departed friends enlisted a local HS owner who is also a
computer nerd. He owns a large roll paper printer (something like a
Epson 9600--way beyond what most anybody would every need) to make him a
continuous background. I think they were making 40" x 12' segments. I
never did see the final results but it all came from a series of
beautiful Colorado mountain scenes.

With some of the features in PhotoShop it is now quite feasible to
shoot a whole series of shots and stitch them together to make a
panoramic scene without resorting to the traditional Walter's
backgrounds. So if anybody needs some great images, send me someplace
and I'll come back with a panoramic background just for you!!!
