Hi Mark --

I would look for Grandt line On3 plastic kits (or assembled used) of the Van 
Dyke narrow gauge cars.   They are a lot less expensive than the brass, and 
easier to mess with...   I don't know if Grandt Line is still producing the 
kit.   If you are considering converting these to S standard gauge, they 
probably represent a much larger tank, close to 10,000 gallons, I think. 
If you want a SMALL tank, the PBL kits in Sn3 will work (and I have a few 
kits if you want them).   They would be about 6000 gallon cars, I think. 
Obviously, this would be a relatively simple conversion - new trucks, 
couplers and possibly moving some ladders.

An HO friend suggested converting the Pre Scale On3 Van Dorn tank cars to S 
for 6,000 gallon cars. Are any of you familiar with this car, or have done a 
similar conversion?
