Gary Ippolito et al --

I just got back from vacation, sifting through my e-mails, and found the
subject
question. I can give a definitive answer.

I made the pattern for AF collector/dealer Dan Olson, who had 100 molded in
urethane. Dan wanted to satisfy a demand for the AF New Haven EP-5 fans, but
wanted a shell that was clearly not a rip-off of the AF EP-5. So I did a
freelance job, made from two AF PAs, one PB, a cylindrical pill bottle, and a
few HO items. The original AF EP-5 has a longer chassis than the PA, but Dan
wanted the shell to fit the PA chassis because that chassis was commonly
available.

I chose to do the FA nose because I could eventually build FAs from these if I
wanted to. Dan gave me three moldings in payment. I built one atop a
scratchbuilt chassis with Cascade drive, and the others sat. I entered my
completed model in the model contest at one of the NASG National Conventions
(Kansas City, I think), where Vic Roseman saw it. He bought my remaining two
shells and converted them back into New Haven EP-5s. When Vic exited S scale,
I
bought one of them.

But anyhow, while Vic was really into S scale New Haven locos and passenger
cars, he struck up a relationship with Tom Hodgson (American Hirail/Instrument
Design). I had no further use for the the shell pattern, so Vic asked if I
minded if he took possession and made some arrangement for Tom to make more
shells. I agreed.

Tom Hodgson subsequently made more moldings from the shell and offered it in a
bunch of impressive liveries, including MILW, GN, and -- can you believe it --
UP.

That's the story.

I have posted two photos of my electrics that includes the two mentioned above
(mine and Vic's) from these shells. They're at:
