Jace,
I don't regard myself as an expert but I do have some experience with DCC
and with the SHS loco. Unless something has changed SHS can supply the loco
with a "shorting plug" which is a small bit of electronics mounted on a small
board and plugs right into the receptacle that receives the plug from the DCC
decoder. Immediately the loco is ready for standard DC operation. You don't
have to do anything special. I suggest that you confirm this with Don at SHS.
An aside: those O scale locos will look very appealing sitting on a display
shelf in your room with the operating S scale equipment.
