I used to wind the solder on the axles in my HO days for those cars that
need it.  Found some solid (non-flux) type to do it with.

As you mentioned, it kept the CoG low too.


For loads, you could have 'unprocessed scrap' going to the industry, then
'processed scap' (compressed blocks and the like) coming out.  Then in both
cases the weight can be hidden under the load.
