Hi Ed;

Did you run the locomotive on DC before the conversion? That's an important 
step that you shouldn't skip. Since replacing the motor is a big step I would 
first try rebooting the decoder to default values. If that doesn't improve the 
situation, disconnect the decoder from the motor, reconnect the leads from the 
trucks and see how it runs on plain old DC. Then you can decide how to procede.
