AMTRAKs "Pennsylvanian" typically passes itself in my back yard ( MP 56 ) or within a half mile. Daily diesel passenger service to Pittsburgh. A poor substitute for the Broadway Limited AMTRAK FINALLY managed to kill it in Sept 1995. As AMTRAK ran out of operating cars, they took them off of the overfilled Broadway, each time they cut a car, the waiting list got longer until people found another way to get to their destinations. Just as the Fallen Flags did, they killed the service so they could kill the train service. Anecdotally, it was almost always difficult if not impossible to get a seat westbound from Lancaster, PA while this went on. They finally annulled the service completely with great fanfare. Republican Congress at the time was cutting AMTRAK past the bone. Jim Lyle In a message dated 9/28/2010 3:36:43 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [email protected] writes:
Typically, a long passenger route--Empire builder, Sunset, California Zephr might have had three trains Westbound and three East plus some reserve equipment. Each similar train was called a set since all three WB or EB would have the same number.
