Ed,

You might check and see if there is a way to take the power from the trucks and 
get it to the motor without making the frame hot one way or another.  Since 
this engine is not S and not sure how Overland uses the side frames could a 
plastic side frame be used or a plastic bolster be made for the trucks to 
isolate the flow of power on the frame?

  I have a brass engine that creates a short when the truck frame slightly 
touches 
  the gear box. This happens when the engine makes any kind of turn. I was told 
by 
  a hobby shop person that clear nail polish applied to the areas that touch 
would 
  solve the problem. Is this true or is it an old model train myth? Any other 
  suggestions? Obviously neither the gear box nor the trucks can be moved. I 
don't 
  know if this matters, but the engine is a OMI SW1500.
