TK/Tom Keller --
Using the prototype railroads as a guide, the max rail size (height) for S
scale
standard gauge is .125" ("code 125"), used only in the Northeastern US on the
PRR until the Northeast Corridor was rebuilt in the late 20th century. Most S
scale modelers use code 100 (.100" high) rail. The more fussy modelers (like
me) use code 83 in yards and code 70 for spurs.
Sn3 modelers generally use code 70 everywhere, although some use code 55 for
spurs, and a few even use code 40 for decrepit track.
