My railroad is a little later than Darrell's so I'm using:

Code 83 Standard Gauge staging yard and mainline. Mainline is actually dual
S/Sn3.
Code 70 S/Sn3 Interchange yard, Sn3 and Sn2 mainlines.
Code 55 Sn3 and Sn2 sidings, Sn3 logging branch.

I will also have a little Sn20 (N gauge) tram, which I'm debating laying
with Code 40 rail instead of Code 55. I'm also debating using Code 40 for
some logging spurs.

Since many narrow gauge railroads didn't use tie plates, and even my
standard gauge will be a short line, I decided not to use them. (Only
Shinohara Code 70 flextrack has tie plates, the Tomalco/PBL flex does not.)
I want to use rougher ties for some of logging railroad, but I'm not sure
what I'll do to model none-sawn ties. I did do a test laying some track on
ties made from bamboo skewers, which is easier than making ties from twigs
because the skewers are uniform. However, I had to drill a hole for each
spike. However, depending on the wood of the twig, I might have to drill it
also.

Turnouts on the mainline are point type, will those in the yards, etc. will
be mostly stub type. All turnouts are built in place using my variation of
Dick Karnes' method. Except for some staging track, all is being hand laid
in place. I am spiking every rail on every tie with the Proto 87 stores
150% HO spikes, which takes time, but track is a model also. (And I was
working on some dual gauge earlier this evening.)
