Several months ago, I picked up one of Lindburg's 1/64th scale PT-boats without a definitive idea of how I would integrate this with my other 1:64th scale models, which are based on Burlington Northern's operations in and around Marias Pass.
http://i.ebayimg.com/07/!BV7JB1!B2k~$(KGrHgoOKiMEjlLmVOYOBKU8cJl9sg~~_35.JPG Since I'd heard about former PT-boats being converted into civilian yachts that sailed from ports in the lower-48 (I'm still not sure if these boats were transported back from their duty stations in the Pacific or if the boats that underwent this transformation were the ones that had never been shipped overseas) I began looking for pictures of one of these converted PT's to serve as a prototype. While browsing the web last night, I found the following picture of the `Phoenix' which was docked somewhere in (the state of) Washington and think it would make a pretty neat prototype. http://pics.hoobly.com/full/VBQZMSRTMQX3.jpg When I have the time and money (both of which are in short supply due to the fact that I was recently forced to move due to the death of my landlord) I hope to begin transforming this model of PT-109 into an RC model of the `Phoenix.' I've found several other guys on an RC forum that have already RC'd this model in its original PT configuration (interestingly, not one of them made their model a 109) and figure I can do the same thing with its "civilianized" variant. One of the other "civilianized" PT's I discovered is PT-486 which was converted into a truly ferry that operated out of Wildwood, NJ (where else ) http://www.navsource.org/archives/12/120548603.jpg *Yes, that is a seahorse tacked onto 486's bow ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
