Walther's calls them "Proto-Max", IIRC. I got two packages, one of standard couplers and one of short shank, on sale for a decent price. They are metal, use Kadee No. 5 compatible boxes, and are very slightly larger than the No. 5. For HO, I guess they are more "Max" than "Proto". Shape is pretty close to the No 5, so so luck on a more scale-like coupler for S (except the Sargent).
