Dick,
Thanks for the post at length. For me interest is a constantly moving target - but I think it would be for others as well. In my mind for the past 2 or so weeks has been wanting to build Pickle coffin cars, work on my NYC and N&W gondolas, wanting to start my super duper special RS3 project and draw the footprint of my basement to scale. 3 weeks before that is was a completely different set of items. The least amount of work (2 gondolas) won out so far. I could not possibly expect anyone or company to keep up with that chaos. I can only hope that whatever items I may need are available at the time I need them. Otherwise I absolutely do buy to some extent "for some day". Things come to me at times when it is not on my current wish list but most likely will get bought anyway. There were brass caboose ladders on eBay last year. I was pretty sure they will work for my RS3 run, so I was in it to win it, bid big and won. If they do not work I may try and sell them but most likely will just become "a part of the pile". Note that the above is almost all rolling stock related. That is where I am and have been for pretty much the entire time I have been in S Scale. In the coming year I think I will need some track supplies if I get to expand my layout. Beyond that will be scenery materials - no wait - a grass man from Illinois. So the needs today will not be the needs tomorrow..
