Bob,
Ah ha, I'm not the only one dissatisfied with the nose on the A.M.
PA! While I haven't done much on it lately, I did the same thing as
you...scraped the top of the nose up to the bottom of the windshields. I
used an Exacto chisel blade and scraped towards the windshields. I also
added thin strips of styrene to the inner top portion of the wind
shields so that I could re-shape that area also, taking away somewhat
the "sad dog" look of the upward sloping windshields. In doing this I
think I discovered why the 6" discrepancy shows up.....if you look at
the shell from the top down, the windshields should "v" out more towards
the front, (compare the AF's to this, quite a difference).
Two other changes that make it look so much better......I added
some .010" black sheet styrene over the nose door ( the AM "gap" is way
too wide), at the same time putting a slight vertical crease down the
center.....PA's noses were not flat or even rounded, looking at photos
sometimes you can see the way light reflects off right along that
crease. Afterwards I scribed a new, much thinner door edge. Of course
filling in the horizontal "Athearn style" coupler swing-slot, is the
last big step.
