I would conjecture the UMD milk came from the demonstration dairy farm in the 
school of agriculture (almost all state universities had them to get landgrant 
funds); in most such cases I've heard about, the production went primarily 
on-campus to cafeterias and other dining facilities.  There may be exceptions I 
am unaware of, but I suspect this would be a sort of tongue-in-cheek lettering 
scheme rather than any basis in prototype.
