I'll second Dan's thoughts on a true Z braced car. Every transistion
era layout needs several--which is a problem to. Not enough time to
build them, but I still would buy a couple. The nicely done SHS car is
great but its hat section braces, I'm told, weren't as common as the Z
braced. I would suspect that a RTR Z braced car would be difficult to mold.

I guess the typical Kinsman 7 panel would be a great starting place. It
had metal braced wooden ends and wooden doors. One could add metal ends
and several door styles. I'm not sure about door openings. About 63 or
64', I took a camera that was won at a carnival down to the local
Milwaukee Road's rail yard and photographed a bunch of these cars that
had been gathered up. I was going to use the shots as reference for the
kit. I only got a couple of the shots to 'come out' (what did I expect
from a $.39 camera?) but the cars were soon gone forever.
