I've been using stainless steel washers on the center bearings of AM cars to 
smooth them out. The best part is, they provide side bearing support without 
raising the carbody - oh, yeah, and the price is right, too. 

SHS cars include a bearing support to replace the hi-rail talgo coupler that 
does essentially the same thing.
