No reason the same principle wouldn't work, but that seems a lot of work when 
the levelers themselves are quite inexpensive (and I have
never denied being a cheapskate or preferring to do most of the heavy lifting 
myself in the hobby).
Andy Reichert has some quite interesting products: in fact, I just ordered some 
in O scale, wishing his elegant track system were available there, as the HO 
version is just too small to travel up--but might well work in S scale.
