Your "Old School" AF train reminds me of one of my first experiences with AF.  
My neighborhood friend, Tommy McMullen, had just received a train set for 
Christmas and called me over to see it.  It was the top-of-the-line Marx set 
and to me a great wonder.  That same Christmas another neighborhood friend, 
Larry, invited me to his house to see his train set.

Now that was a train set.  It was 1946 or maybe 1947.  Larry's parents had 
bought him what I think was the top-of-the-line AF set, the Union Pacific 
"Challenger" freight set.  There was the big 4-8-4 and quite a string of 
freight cars.   To a five-year-old that was impressive.

Thanks for resurrecting a memory.
