I was doing OK in assembling my BTS F39 flatcar kit until I reached the point
where the floor seemed to be coming out much too high with respect to the side
railings. I couldn't remove the supplied sheet styrene I had bonded on for
decking, and so I set it aside. Recently a friend who is a much better
modeller than I am took it home with him, brought it back with a new deck that
looks right. I think he said he replaced the .040 material with a like amount
of .020 material.
Since he's underemployed right now, I'm going to let him finish it. He would
have gotten it to paint & decal anyway. I think it's going to be a nice cars.
I only know of two others attempted. One looked nice on a layout I went to in
some tour,. maybe in St Louis. The other the builder gave up on and told me he
asked for his money back. "For my money," it is not unbuildable, but one
should consider the deck height before CAing everything together.
