Hi Bill and all --

For the last many years I have kept a log of my trains (both acquisitions
and losses) that is part of our trust. I believe I used the forms that the
NASG provided, though it could have been the NMRA. Every year we review
the contents of the trust (assets) to make sure that our heirs know what is
where and what to do with it, including who to contact for help. I build
my layouts with screws – no glue or nails in the benchwork – so it can be
taken down with relatively little fuss. Still, getting everything I have
in the trainroom taken care of will be a monumental task, and I am sure the
local landfill will get some of it! In any case, when you start going
through your inventory, it will be astonishing (at least it was to me) how
much “stuff” you have, and possibly by how much you have spent or what it
might be worth, but the survivors need to know a ballpark answer.

Let’s hope for many more years before all this comes into actual play,

Linda like most of our wives isn't into model railroading, perhaps only to
the point of pleasing their husbands. ...I did, and
was "Floored" at what I saw laying around there on the bench work..
Frankly I knew Stan pretty darn well, but I never knew he was into model
railroading that much and Linda had little knowledge of what was going on
either.

She had asked Stan in the last year to put everything down on paper [hard
copy] as she is not a computer person. Stan never did!

Suddenly, I knew this was above my expertise. I immediately called two of my
friends, (1) Bert Mahr, my LVSG Buddy and (2) my good friend, Jeff Wilson
(Hoquat hobbies) and made arrangements for them to meet with Linda.
I'm hoping that this situation will be resolved soon for Linda.

But folks, how many of us are currently in the same situation with our model
railroads?
I ask you, are we being fair to our spouses ?
"S"incerely,
Bill (Fraley)
