I would also use birch plywood if I needed new wood for a layout. Luckily,
most of my wood was salvaged from older layouts.
I've been laying Code 70 rail for my Sn2 mainline. I finished the Code 83
S/Sn3 dual gauge track last week, so I'm all finished laying Code 83 rail
and that means the standard gauge "mainline" is finished, except for wiring.
Since the Sn2 mainline runs parallel to the S/Sn3 tracks, I decided to wire
them all at the same time. No string here, been using DCC for years (16?),
and Dynatrol before that.
I does take me time to hand lay all this track, but I really do enjoy it,
and it allows me to do whatever I want or need to do to make things fit;
like have the Sn2 mainline cross two S/Sn3 dual gauge tracks, just past the
last frog of a turnout, with all tracks curved. (That was fun!) My goal is
to have my Sn3 and Sn2 mainlines operational this year.
