Howard, Actual scale bricks would be great IMHO but can you cut them from some other material than wood? It would be tough to seal and sand wood to remove the grain before painting (don't want wood grained bricks after all.) I would think, similar to scribed siding, all that fine dust would collect in the "mortar" lines and be a pain to get out.
