All,

Here is a quick n dirty view of what I am doing. This may be a first here. I
have never heard of anyone doing it before.

This was built by Don DeWitt. I saw a date of 1986 written on the frame. I
thought for a second that I was messing with S-Mod history, but I can't
afford to build all new. At least some of the components will live on and be
actively used instead of only at an occasional show or convention.

I have 2 S-Mod 30" x 4' modules that were built on pine frames. At least 1
of them had a wracked twist to it. If you sighted the module end to end it
was rather apparent. I decided to custom build 1 new 8' long frame, removed
the old frames and attach the decks to it.

As you can see I did it with not ONE wire cut and barely any bruised
insulation! It really was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I got
a flush cut blade for my saber saw. The pine had a tendency to break at
lines where holes were drilled for wires. That is just where I wanted the
wood to spilt!.

As a side note if you think you want a flush cutting blade for your saber
saw find them and buy them. My wonderful indy hardware store had some but
could actually have been 20 old stock. I could not find them anywhere else.

I was not sure if the wiring is good. But wiring like this is not one of the
things I do best. I thought it was best to leave the wiring intact at least
for now. It may all be stripped off and started new for DCC at some point. I
should have the decks put on the new frame. I hope to try and see if
anything will run on it later today!

Thank You,
Bill Lane
