In the absence of harder information, I can only infer from the castings I have
that there must have been SOME overlap;
the gondola castings both are marked "Rex, Birmingham MI" and the conversion
floor castings with exactly the same underfloor
detail but also exactly the same Kadee mounts as Ace (which even the scale
gondola does not quite have, although a bit similar).

I think someone pointed out in post some time ago that the Rex gondola
underfloors were accurate but their flatcar underframes
(presumably the same as for the gondola) were wrong for flatcars?

I am still getting up to speed on what Ace produced: the hopper conversion
bolsters work fine for both the earlier and later (clunky) AF
cast mounts, and the cast floors slip right into the only AF housecar I own, so
what works for the AF gondolas or fltacars (I don't really plan on doing the
tankcars, from what other list members have related)? I have a set of the flat
mount cast bolsters, but that still means cutting
the plastic clunkies off the underside of the gondola (or flatcar) or using the
hopper conversion bolsters which put the gondola/flatcar
fairly high up with lots of daylight under it. Both hopper and housecar are
such neat fixes, I'd think something similar would have been
developed for the gondola and flat.

The hopper conversion bolsters, of course, also work for the AF three-bays and
covered hoppers, as the original cast mounts are the same as for the stock twin
hoppers.
