I forwarded one of those messages to a local highly-respected painter and he
sent back to me

Tom, I used quite a bit of Floquil's old polly-s paint back in the 70's It
wasn't bad. ( It didn't work on brass.) The new pollyscale is such a vast
improvement there is really no comparison. You did have to prime all plastic
with a flat primer first or the paint would "crawl" and still do. On wood
models I used spray can sanding sealer to prime the porous wood surface. The
original Badger Accuflex had a bunch of quality control problems too That's
why Badger changed to Modelflex . I still prefer Pollyscale to the "improved"
Badger stuff. The only air brush problem I had with Polly-S was caused by
switching back and forth between solvent based paint and water based paint. If
the brush wasn't absolutely clean it would throw what painters call "snoters'
when the solvet loosened some water based paint residue inside the airbrush
somewhere This is still true today. I used a few bottles of air-opaque but
found it to be a little on the thin side and it didn't come in any railroad
colors so you had to mix everything. I use mostly Pollyscale and the original
Floquil paint now I am not replacing what I have left of Badger paint when
it dries up or runs out. As for the cancer risk with solvent paint I hope my
otherwise healthy lifestyle will compensate for the tons of solvents I probably
breathed in during my life Scalecoat
is the worst product for this and I have used very little of. I hate it !
That is the worst paint product on the market. It does, however, give the
best looking, professional result.
