OK, I'll chime in on the turnout subject.

Turnouts built to the AREA (American Railway Engineering Association) standards
have straight frogs and straight points. They are all integral sizes from 5
through 20, except there are no Number 13, 17, and 19 frogs.

American frog numbers equal twice the cotangent of half the frog angle.

That said, there are a lot of trackwork components out there that are
"non-standard." Curved points and curved frogs are indeed used by some
railroads in some situations. Notably, some railroads use/used curved points
for the curved routes in low-frog-number slip switches.

Some railroads, notably the PRR, had their own set of turnout standards like no
other. PRR used only Nos. 5.289 (yes, that is correct!), 6, 8, 10, 15, and 20
for turnouts, and Nos. 6, 8, 10, and 15 for slip switches. All PRR turnout
guardrails were curved except for the three and a half feet in the center, and
all were the same length (16 feet 6 inches) regardless of turnout frog number.
