I wonder what percentage of S scalers (with scale track) converted from
being American Flyer highrailers? My guess is that it is pretty high though
I do not know.

I would think we would have many more of these converts from AF highrail if
we had a motorized turnout readily available. The AF guys, maybe unlike
the HO or O converts, are accustomed to having turnout that are easily to
install and wire and operate. As good as Tortoises and some of the other
switch machines are, installing them is an obstacle that stops some of them
from converting. At least that is my guess.

A lot of the subscribers to this group enjoy the building and installing of
track and turnouts. But some are lazy like me and simply want to setup
and run trains as quickly and easily as possible. Right now I am gettng
ready to install Tortoises on both Tomalco and Tom's turnouts but I really
wish
I did not need to do this. And I would never consider manual turnouts as
an acceptable permanent practice though nothing wrong with it if it is your
 preferance.

There's nothing wrong with them, but this is one of those items we have to
rehash every 6 months, and last time around the opinion was expressed that
lack of scale turnouts with switch motors already attached is what's
keeping
thousands of potential modellers from switching to S.
