Gents.

I'd like to comment on the above thought. Not necessarily to disagree, but
to ask where is the evidence? Opinions are great (I have lots of them), but
is the above thought an opinion or something more substantial based on
factual evidence?

Lessee now...Lionel is now making AF stuff after decades of ignoring it.
SHS, AM, DPH, etc. all say hi-rail is well over 85% percent of their sales.
Only RTR with giant couplers is available from those firms these days unless
you want to modify their standard products to become scale compatible. I
keep hearing of new clubs that are taking the hi-rail route for their
modular display layouts. I don't recall hearing of any brand new S scale
clubs (code 100 rail or smaller) in recent years with a sizeable scale
modular display layout. There might be some, but I just don't recall
hearing about them. And Jim King is the only fellow making "NEW" S scale
rolling stock these days. Yes, BTS has a lot of scale rolling stock
available, but how much of it is brand new in the past year or so? (Not a
criticism, just an observation. Hold the firepower.)

I would tend to think that a 3-rail O gauge fellow would be quite happy to
convert to S hi-rail. He loses the middle rail and can fit more trains into
his layout space. Some HO fellas might be happy to convert to S hi-rail
since they are losing their eyesight faster than I am losing my hair. Not
to mention shaking hands. And, if there is product available, why wouldn't
children be attracted to AF or S hi-rail for the same reasons as many of us
were back in the 1950s?

So I ask, is Brother Werre's statement above really fact or opinion? I know
where Brother Karnes stands on this issue, but what about the rest of you?
Or are we all going down the path of negative group think?

And, just to contrast things, what factual evidence is there that S scale is
actually growing? Opinion or fact?

Cheers.Ed L.
