Hi Mark; I also used the LokSound decoder, on the basis that at least some people feel the Alco sound is better than Soundtrax. I used the speaker that came with the decoder. Since the LokSound is programmable, most dealers can put in whatever sound you like.
Don't forget you probably need a couple of bulbs or warm white LEDs for the headlight/backup light since the AM unit comes with one large bulb, like an old Athearn (at least all of my older AM units did). My most recent AM unit, the Train Master, had LEDs but they were plain White, which has a very blue cast. Pieter E.
