Hi Bill, You can wire up one green LED to light up when the polarity is in one direction, and the other red LED when the polarity is in the other direction. Or... you can buy an LED that can display two colors depending on the polarity of the current.
A diode (which is what an LED is) blocks current in one direction and allows current in the other direction. When the toggle switch changes the polarity, one LED allows current to flow through (thus lighting up), and the other LED blocks current (thus turning OFF). When the toggle switch is flipped, the polarity is changed in the other direction, and the current flows in the opposite directory, thereby turning OFF the one LED and turning ON the other. Here's a single LED that has green and red built in, depending on the polarity (connect positive to one leg and you get red, connect positive to the other leg and you get green): http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062549 HTH, - Peter.
