Charles,

Sorry to jump in on your question to Dick, but the Northern Ohio S
Scalers' switching layout is mostly laid with Shinohara #6's and we
have no problems with SHS switchers and 40' cars. I'd go so far as to
say any currently available diesel model and the SHS 2-8-0 all work
without a hitch. Your aesthetic values will dictate what you think of
the look as those larger diesels move through the 5 1/2 (or whatever)
frogs. We have very few issues with the Shinohara track. I could nit-
pick the construction of the turnouts but in practice they work pretty
well right out of the box.

Mr. Karnes,

Would you consider the shorter Shinohara turnout an acceptable option
if it were correctly labeled as #4.5, #5.25 (or whatever the diverging
route really measures?) I've not yet seen one, and measure for myself
when I do.

I'm planning a switching layout with an SW-9 diesel and 40' freight
cars, so a frog angle sharper than #6 is acceptable. I don't have the
'real estate' for #8 frogs.
