Controlling turnouts with DCC decoders is not very slick, but when you need
more than one control location, it saves building multiple control panels which
are a lot of work. My layout is walk around with simple local panels, but part
of the upper level is not easy to access. So I got a NCE Switch 8 for that
area. One drawback is no easy way to know turnout positions with that setup.
I see no difference in punching Sel Accessory button or Sel Loco botton & then
the number of the turnout. So there is no advantage to using motor decoders for
turnouts.
Sure DC is reliable, but boring. {:-) The larger & more complex the layout the
more DCC is advantageous. What finally pushed me over the edge was reversing
sections.
I missed another year of modeling due to health but am back at it again in case
you're wondering why I popped out of the woodwork.
