Well, that's a promo for DCC which is far more prototypically realistic with 
independent operation of engines on the same track, multiple unit consisting, 
control of lights & sounds on the fly. There is better control, smoother 
starts, stops, speed matching.

You don't have to have it but it's like computers; the capabilities are 
limitless & superior to analog. Sooner or later we want/need it.
