 So can DCC wiring, I've even run them with the wires twisted together and 
taped, no solder. A 12 watt pencil iron is all one needs to install DCC.  
  Resistance soldering is really only convenient  when working on brass models, 
I rarely use mine for routine stuff as it is more trouble to set up and takes 
up more space. I like a pistol trigger gun for soldering rail joints and 
feeders and the small pencil irons for burning in brass details on plastic cars 
and for wire handrails, cut levers etc. The only time I'd bother with the hotip 
is if I wanted to remove or add a detail to a brass loco or similar situation( 
which btw is situations I try to avoid  ) ...dave
