Hi Bob, when I was a kid I often played on SP sand hoppers and they were as
you said, bare rusty metal on top changing to bare polished metal at the
bottom. A few protected spots in corners etc might have a little paint left but
below the full load line not much was left.
It doesn't take long for the bare metal to get surface rust but the next load
scrubs it off. A construction scraper can is a good way to see the same
effect....dave
