I just uploaded three photo files of my AF flatcars conversion project, since my work on these cars will be interrupted by an Iowa City urologist this coming Thursday, and I am unsure of the immediate future for a couple of days hence. This is one of the "creeks I have to cross" before I can make any definite plans for St. Louis this Fall.
Anyway, I have been modifying the decks on these cars for a more realistic appearance. In the comparison photo, flat car #216 is an unmodified car, while the car behind it is. Among the changes are widening the deck and opening up the stake pockets, and, of course, new grab irons and sill steps. The decks otherwise are straight AF, weathered and textured with artists' acrylic colors and sandpaper.
