In several areas my spikes have rusted, leaving a sizable splotch of rust on
and in the ties, and on the rail web and base. I'm trying to figure out if this
starts in the ballasting process (place ballast, spray with alcohol, soak with
dilute white glue trying not to get any on tops of ties) or if it's more likely
happening in the scenery process which comes before and after the ballasting
process. Any ideas? Prevention? Cleaning off the existing rust?
