Mike: Are you sure you got that right? There was the "Alphabet Route", a routing from Chicago or St. Louis to Boston, named after the various roads that made up the route.
They were the Nickel Plate, Wheeling & Lake Erie, Pittsburg & West Virginia, Western Maryland, Reading, Central of New Jersey, Lehigh & Hudson River, and New Haven. This was in competition with the PRR or NYC. Their "hotshot" trains were the Alpha Jets. They were "run through" freights, not being classified en route. They did manage to snag a bit of business for a while. ____________________________________________________________ Get Free Email with Video Mail & Video Chat! http://www.juno.com/freeemail?refcd=JUTAGOUT1FREM0210 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
