Well now, how cool is that? My meager efforts have inspired a fellow S
scaler!

Still some tricky things ahead.

Well, I lucked out. The prototype for my model, Frisco #241, had the upper
cab windows blanked out by the early 60's. However, I have already started
a template that will fit the front of the AM S-12 cab, just like I had for
the Athearn S-12 decades ago. Once the reusable template is made, you
simply place it on the cab and using a scribe (I use a cut off straight pin
in my pin vise), trace within the template. Then drill out the center, and
using a small square file, start filing your way out to the trace marks. In
the past I've used clear styrene or some other thicker clear display
packaging to cut and file to fit some windows. Definitely doable. One
relaxed evening and you have upper windows on your S-12 cab.

Yup! That's the connection! Long time ago some guys on a the Sn3 list I was
a part of began to refer to me as Ming The Merciless, or Ming of Mong, etc.

Welp... you just MAY find it ADORABLE! :-)

Well thank'ya kindly, Mr. Roos!

You know... I have tried that article thing in the past... I always fizzled
out before I finished. (Insert "Embarrassed Smiley" here.)

Already been there, already done that. Here's a pic of how I did it:

http://www.vscalecreations.com/3rail/Baldwin4.jpg

My approach requires using the "Y" center from the soft brass handrail set
that came with my last three S-12's I purchased from AM. BTW, what you're
looking at is either to become a Kansas City & Gulf S-12, or a Mop S-12 in
Jenks Blue... haven't settled on which just yet.

I'm short one brass end rail, on account of botching it trying to figure out
the best way to have a "Y" bracket and scale sized hand rails. I also need
more of the plastic hand rail sets. (I glue them in place, and then cut them
off to plug the cast-in holes on the shell.) I need to contact AM to see if
I can purchase the brass handrails and other S-12 parts. I intend to
"eventually" have a fleet of these Baldwins in various liveries and will be
hacking up some more of them to fashion into other Baldwin model types. (I
HAVE thought about a 2-into-1 hack and end up with a Baldwin VO1000... but
that will be quite a ways down the road IF I ever tackle it.)

Well... ummm... well... (see above).

Tonight the wife and I will be heading out to go eat Chinese food... then
it's off to the local big box store to see if I can pick up some fresh
X-Acto blades and some ACC and 5 Min Epoxy to use for filler. Hope to make
some progress on the model itself before bedtime.

Later!
