Being a rivit counter modeler I'm very interested in hand rails, grabs and other details that separate a scale model from a Hi-Rail or 3R toy. I'd be very disappointed to backslide to the day of cast in details.
SHS details aren't fragile. The details on my new SSA tank cars are not fragile. I'll admit the old PRS plastic details were fragile but they were owner added and could be swapped for metal if the modeler wanted.
