Key in Thurmont, MD.

Enlarge the map until you see the RR track in Thurmont.

Follow it northwest.

It is the wildest track line you might see, as it makes a sharp turn goes to
Sabillasville, and then makes a horseshow type turn that would make Altoona
jealous. Heads up to Blue Summit, PA for a bit comes back down to MD and
eventually hits Hagerstown MD which a nice RR hub for many tracks. One goes
north west which will become the W MD railtrail.

The reason I bring this to your attention, as Thurmont is along the base of the
Catoctin Mountains and there are a lot of hiking trails, as Linda and I hike up
here a lot.

The rail line starts in Baltimore, as it was the the Western Maryland railroad
first. Now it is called the MD Midland.

The RR could of followed MD 77 through the mountains a more direct shot, as I
wonder if Blue Summit PA needed a rail line to come through due to some
industry.

We normally park at Park Headquarters on MD 77 for hiking, but we have been to
Sabillasville once, as there is or was a orchard there. There is the RR track
along the road, as the road is very curvy. I do remember seeing a trestle.
