Usually, you don't move it.  OR you are forced to hire and pay an  engineer 
now, to do what came naturally 10 yrs ago,  Having said that, I  saw two 
"butt joined girders" welded & plated and the post moved several  feet, owner 
was the "engineer".   Heavy truck frames are butt welded and  plated 
frequently to lengthen/strengthen or repair the frame.  LOT more  stress there.
