That was a common use for retouching and otherwise playing with photographic 
images
before photoshop and digitization and folks like Bob became expert in improving 
the art.

I have never had any problem with plastic, but as with any lacquer, I am 
careful not to
put it on wet, and usually it goes on top of a paint layer, so it rarely has 
occasion to come
into direct contact with the styrene.
