I've also missed very few conventions since my first one in Sacramento
in the mid 80's. It's interesting to know that many of the local guys I
met there were still kicking (although somewhat slower) two months ago.
Lee Johnson, Bill Roberts, Ed Loizeaux, Jerry Porter are some that come
to mind. Our local group had quite a few of us out there too, so those
are the reasons your first will stay in your mind for a long time. It
was perhaps a bit smaller than today's, but we had a prototype tour,
some layouts and the usual stuff around the hotel itself. I
particularly liked a session where individuals brought videos and slides
of their own layouts--I don't think it's been done since.

I think all the groups that have done more than one convention
(Cleveland, Michigan, Bristol and BASS) have become better in the
organization part, but like Jim says they all have had their own flavor
and perhaps a lost tour bus!
