My pine strips are about 3/8 square. I tried to splice 8 foot long lengths together. As it turned out (no pun intended) I needed about 18 feet total. I knew I would be close at just shy of 16 feet for a high 50s radius but it did not work. I had to splice again.
My issue was the strips kept breaking at the slice joints, and sometimes in the middle too. Home Depot is under the impression that no one needs pine longer than 10 feet. I absolutely remember you could have gotten milled strips ½ x 1 x 16 long perfect & ready to use for this. Not anymore I ponied up for the premium knot free pine but there is no guarantee the grain is running long. One turn has 4 lengths of SHS track on it that I am calling permanently installed. I spent much of the day moving 1 main line on my passenger section out to 3 centerline. Ironically the idea of moving the mainline came to me during the hurricane last night! The 2 3/8 was just too tight. It will now match the 3 centers on the turns too. I finished my day with a leisurely 2 hour encounter with a chain saw clearing the suicidal tree from my yard .
